Morning Hunt Yields 1954 Surprise

As Memorial Day weekend arrives, I take the opportunity for some morning detecting at a local elementary school.

The addition of the GTI 1500 has truly enhanced my coin targets. I am digging far less trashy targets and seeing more info on a target before I dig my plug.

So as I am recovering a nice amount of clad coins totaling about $4.75, I get a signal that was jumping between penny and nickel. Usually that tells me that I'm over a gum wrapper or something, but the detector also sized the target as a coin.

So I dig the plug and unearth a 1954 50 centimes Belgile. The last thing I expected to find was a Belgian coin.

So you never know what lies beneath.
